Environment Redesign

Legacy VR environment rework covering remeshing, UV cleanup, rebakes, materials and optimisation.

Environment Redesign

A recurring part of my commercial work has been taking older assets and environments that no longer held up visually or technically, then rebuilding them so they were fit for current products and headset constraints. This was less about novelty and more about raising the overall quality bar in a practical way.

  • Remeshed and cleaned up existing assets where geometry quality or runtime cost had become a problem.
  • Improved UV layouts and rebaked textures to get cleaner, more consistent material results.
  • Updated materials, lighting and general scene presentation to bring environments up to a stronger visual standard.
  • Optimised assets for real-time VR use, balancing appearance against practical standalone headset limits.

This kind of work is useful because it closes the gap between technical implementation and how a product actually feels to a user. Strong systems can still be let down by weak environments, so bringing older scenes up to standard has had a direct impact on the quality of the final experience.
